Our teaching & learning Approach

FOUNDATIONAL YEARS
(Jr.KG, Sr. KG, Grade 1, 2)

The Junior Kindergarten (Jr. KG) curriculum is designed to provide a nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning experience for young children. This focuses on fostering the holistic development of children by balancing academic, social, and emotional growth. In Jr. KG, children are introduced to foundational skills in numeracy, literacy, and creative expression through a combination of interactive play-based activities and structured learning. The CBSE Jr. KG curriculum also emphasizes the development of social and motor skills, encouraging children to explore, question, and engage with their environment. It creates a safe and stimulating environment that promotes curiosity and readiness for formal education, setting the stage for their educational journey.

The Senior Kindergarten (Sr. KG) curriculum provides a critical bridge between early childhood education and primary school. This curriculum builds on the foundational skills developed in Jr. KG

and prepares children for a smoother transition into formal education. It places a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, and language development, while also nurturing creativity and critical thinking. Sr. KG curriculum incorporates interactive and hands-on learning experiences, including stories, art, and hands-on activities, to engage children in a fun and engaging way. This curriculum aims to cultivate a strong foundation for reading, writing, and basic math skills while also focusing on character development and social interaction. It plays a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for a successful transition to primary education within the CBSE framework.

It encourages interactive and experiential learning, fostering a love for learning and curiosity. The curriculum also focuses on character development and social skills, promoting a well-rounded education. Quick recall of the required is important as they form the foundation for a large majority of the work the children will cover within the year.

Science in this is engaging and fun. Your child will learn about life processes, weather, food, environment, and animals (including humans). How to work scientifically and write up their investigations in a more formal way — using inquiry methods, results and conclusions — is also a key part of this year’s science curriculum.

Reading is key this year and there are plenty of ways you can help. It is still important to listen to your child read regularly. Ask questions about what they’re reading. This will encourage your child to think deeply about their reading, whether they’re reading aloud or independently.

PREPARATORY STAGE
(Grade 3, 4, 5)

This is a year in which teachers nurture and encourage feelings of independent thinking, learning and decision-making. Home assignments become more common at this stage helping students practice & reinforce what they learn in the class. This stage is important for the development of social skills and emotional intelligence. They learn to work in groups, collaborate & build friendships. The School offers an array of extracurricular activities such as sports, horse riding, creative arts to provide a well-rounded education.

Critical time in a child’s education, where they build upon the foundational skills learned in earlier years and prepare for advanced academic challenges as they progress through the education process.

The wider curriculum

There are some great science topics that children love. Fun and engaging history and geography topics are also taught this year. These are the subjects that fire the imagination and that children remember.

In Maths and English, the teachers will be aiming to ensure that your child knows and understands particular key skills. Application of concepts is important and co-relating them is taught.

Overall, perhaps the single most important aspect of this year is children’s increasing independence and confidence in what they can achieve at school. Your child will be encouraged to start to think about their learning. They need to make decisions on how to present work, how and when to complete homework, and how to learn best.

Year 4 is also often the year that children earn their ‘pen license’ – that transition in writing which will stay with the child for the rest of his life. This in deed  is  challenging  for few children whose handwriting is not the neatest. It is good to have something to aim for and often raises the profile of handwriting.

However, don’t worry if your child is not writing with a pen straight away. They will get there eventually!

This year is a year of hard work and dedication towards academics and introspection. A year to start the preparations for the transition to secondary school. This is often a year when children grow in maturity.

They gain greater independence and confidence from being given more responsibility in their learning.

1. Mathematics

In Maths, there is an emphasis on fractions, decimals, and percentages in this year. There is also an expectation that they will know all of the written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

2. English

For English, new punctuations are introduced. There is a greater emphasis on grammar features too.

Developing creative writing skills helps the child to express his views.

3. General Science and Social Studies

There are some fantastic topics this year. A favorite science topic is often space as the children find it so engaging. Different systems of the human body, are also interesting topics and excites the child. Knowing in detail about our country and the world, different land-forms and a lot more help the child develop a new vision.
